This is not part of the book club, but is somewhat adjacent. It's a place to meet, play and work together. Want to do body doubling or co-working? This is your place!
I'd advice you to just visit, rather than read the whole thing below. It's a much easier way to get an idea of the space. But do use the text as a guide if needed (fair warning: the place does change up a little now and then, so some objects might have changed)
It's quite simple. The room is created in Gather.town and is always open. You just go to the site and access by password. You can find the password on my profile. If it (for whatever reason) doesn't work, please send me a DM.
You can also sign up as a member of the space (see image) and claim a "desk" where others can leave you notes etc. This is by no means a requirement though.
We arrive at the starting area (1). We now have the option to watch a little Gather.town tutorial (pressing X) or just move on in. If we fancy a break, there are some coworking games for breaks (3) in this area too!
However, we just arrived so let's visit the other members through the entrance (4).
Arriving, we can see Shirley (1), and Nate (2) both sitting by their desks. These are private spaces where you can be in peace (unless someone walks over, then it's a shared private space - like in real life).
We can also see some common spaces (3), a lunch table and a kitchenette. That's great for lunch breaks and chats!
In the member section (4), we can see who's about and also both wave (sends a short hello) or initiate a chat with someone.
If you hover your mouse cursor over a desk area (1), several options will reveal themselves - all related to the owner of the desk, here Shirley.
You can see their status (2), wave (3) (if status isn't set to busy). You can see their profile (4), initiate a chat (5) or... leave a note (6)!
Let's leave a note!
You can enter your text (emojies possible, but no images) (1) or maybe use one of the examples as a starter (2). It's also possible to choose different graphics (note, cake, balloons...) (3) depending on the occasion. When done writing, get ready to place the note (4).
You finish by placing the note on the recipient's desk (1). Use the cursor to pick a good spot.
Try to not have the note be right between two desks, as these notes are public(!). Everyone can walk up and read them, but only the recipient can remove them.
TL;DR: Don't write anything you don't want others to read.
Someone left a note at my desk! The "gift" tag will spin indicating a note (or balloons, cake or champagne) and will have a yellow glow when you can read it. Just walk over and click X as indicated.
Hi Andrew! Before responding to him, I'll can "clean up" (1). This removes the note (permanently!). To have this done automatically, after you read notes click the cog (2) and toggle the setting (3).
Yes, using the office elevator will take you to the workshop. This is a coworking space made for meetings, showcases and 1-on-1s. You arrive at the entrance (1) and from here have a choice of options:
If you need to hold a meeting or doing some coworking how about a private cubicle (2) or a bigger table with a whiteboard (6)? If you are just two people a smaller space might be better (5).
Are you doing a showcase or speech? Well, go on stage and use that microphone (3)! Anyone standing by the microphone can be heard and has "host" privileges as we know from Zoom and Teams. This is also great for quickly notifying everybody when working in separate groups.
People attending this showcase/speech (4) can interact with the presenter, but everyone else can only hear the presenter - not interact.
Finally are the bookshelves (7). Nothing to see here, but aiming to embed some resources to read or watch.
